You can visit our website at Title Accountant I/II/III Position Posting Location Buffalo Status Full Time Regular Hours As required Job Description The Accountant uses his/her education and professional experience to develop skills that allow him/her to perform various routine and non-routine accounting and analytical functions within the Finance Department. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, gathering and interpreting financial information, designing processes or reporting, preparing or reviewing journal entries, preparing and interpreting financial reports, and maintaining general ledger accounts. Primary Responsibility
  • Performs assigned Financial statement close responsibilities
  • Prepares various types of financial reports
  • Prepares recurring journal entries
  • Reconciles general ledger accounts or reconciles financial reports
  • Ability to critically think and problem solve to identify and assess issues that arise
  • - Ability to develop and execute on professional judgment related to subjective aspects of assigned responsibilities - Ability to handle ambiguity and uncertainty within assigned responsibilities Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrates an understanding of basic and complex accounting and finance concepts
  • Demonstrates an understanding of Statutory Accounting principles and Insurance Law

  • Ability to multi task easily between routine, non-routine, and hoc responsibilities
  • Ability to design and execute on process or reporting enhancements related to assigned job responsibilities
  • Demonstrates a level of MS Office proficiency (Office, Word, Access), experience with various accounting systems a plus
  • Experience
  • (Level I) Minimum of 0 years experience. Masters in Accounting or Finance preferred
  • (Level II) Minimum of 2 years experience. Masters in Accounting or Finance preferred
  • (Level III) Minimum of 5+ years experience. Masters in Accounting or Finance preferred. CPA, CMA or other applicable designation preferred but not required
  • Education
  • Required Education:
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance or related area of study required
  • Working Conditions
  • Must be able to work in an office environment
  • Manual Dexterity Req: Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to effectively use a computer with all its components for prolonged periods of time and for the majority of required tasks
  • Manual Dexterity Req: Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to effectively utilize various office equipment (phone, computer, fax machine, printer, copier, filing cabinet, etc.)
  • Mental effort: Adequate to perform essential functions of the job with the type of judgments and responsibilities as indicated in the job description
  • Heat, light, air, space and working environment typically found in an office environment
