Assistant to the Controller

Reports to: Controller

Job Summary

You will be responsible for daily accounting and administrative functions. You will administer the club’s health insurance, retirement and other benefit programs. You will be responsible for supporting the Accounting Department by handling day-to-day tasks, supporting staff with software knowledge and working on special projects. A qualified candidate will be a thorough professional having a great understanding of the concept of confidentiality. This position reports directly to the Club Controller.

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field
  • Minimum of one to two years’ experience working in accounting or finance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Work productively and amicably with other personnel
  • Heavy data entry and typing with high production expectations
  • Strong expertise in computer applications such as MS Office (Word, Excel) Jonas and Certipay
  • Strong attention to detail and proven ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Perfectionist by nature, no tolerance for financial sloppiness
  • Possess outstanding organization and time management skills
  • Must have excellent work habits, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to get the job done, especially when important deadlines cause greater than normal departmental pressures.

Job Tasks/Duties:

  • Daily accounting and administrative functions as needed
  • Day-to-day office tasks and special projects as needed
  • Assist with tracking and maintaining employee benefits
  • Perform accounting, financial or reporting as required from time to time – quite often on short notice
  • To support the Controller in carrying out the responsibilities of the Accounting Department
  • To relieve the Controller of certain responsibilities that will allow them to spend a greater portion of their time on Financial Statement preparation and analysis, budget and variance issues
  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements under the supervision of the controller
  • Responsible for identifying and preventing discrepancies with the goal of ensuring accurate financial reporting
  • Manage journal entries, invoices and reconcile accounts for the monthly or annual closing
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts
  • Utilize accounting IT system to facilitate processes and maintain records
  • Maintain employee records
  • Monitor and verify timekeeping information for all employees
  • Oversee all work-related injury claims to ensure integrity, ongoing case management and reporting compliance
  • Utilize Jonas Software remote training to become a champion of the information and reporting capabilities to support management.
