The Public Relations & Marketing Coordinator (PR/CC) collaborates with all units in the CPPS assuring communication, marketing and public relations needs are met. Specifically, the coordinator works closely with development, the department of pharmaceutical sciences, the department of pharmacotherapy, the graduate program, the business office, and student services.

To work effectively with all of these units, the coordinator must understand how each unit functions and tailor the communication, marketing and public relations outputs to the units’ unique requirements and requests. The CPPS is grounded in science; the PR/CC must have the ability to comprehend the research initiatives and educational programming associated with the PharmD and PhD programs.

The PR/CC will work with the Vice Dean of External Relations to develop, implement and maintain a comprehensive pharmacy communications plan to inform internal and external audiences about activities and accomplishments, supporting the enrollment, curricular, research, service and advancement goals of the College. The information communicated will support the College and University priorities and align with key messages adopted by the University. The PR/CC will serve as a liaison to news media and to central University communications units. The coordinator will create brand recognition by producing or supervising the production of news releases, newsletters, annual reports, quarterly donor impact reports, special reports, speeches, brochures, videos, still photography, web pages, social media, and other materials related to the College’s public image. To successfully execute all of these duties, the PR/CC must have high level writing skills. Internal and external events will be responded to rapidly. It is expected that both specialty and mainstream media will be engaged as part of the communication plan.

55% Communications Management

Produce or supervise the creation of news releases, newsletters, annual reports, quarterly donor impact reports, special reports, speeches, brochures, videos, still photography, web pages, social media, crisis management messaging, talking points, and other communications materials related to the College’s strategic goals.

Consistently meet with College unit heads to create and maintain a timeline describing when communication, marketing, and public relations materials will be needed. Maintain dialogue with these unit heads to assure needs are being met.

Develop concepts for marketing projects including advertising, websites, and promotional events as that strengthen university and organizational messages for the college and meet the needs of the unit heads.

In collaboration with the Communications Consultant 1, oversee the development and maintenance of an effective, creative website.

Apply university branding guidelines to provide consistent visual presentation across all mediums. ________________________________________ 20% Research Communications

Manage the science/research communication efforts of the College, including writing feature articles, press releases, brochures, and research website content highlighting College research activities such as peer-reviewed scholarly publications and securing competitive research funding.

Understand and articulate to multiple audiences the major research areas undertaken at the College and their relevance to improving health and setting police by translating research findings (both practice-based and basic research) into stories that are understandable to a wide audience.

Enhance the visibility of College researchers and outreach with external stakeholders, through strategically-placed news releases, social networking, and relationships with local media.

Work with the Associate Dean for Research and the Director of the Center for Pharmacy Practice Research to ensure that research priorities are included in the College communications strategy. ________________________________________ 5% Strategic Planning & Implementation

Maintain, update, and enhance a comprehensive communications plan for the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, taking into account resource allocation and desired program results.

Ensure the goals of the plan to advance the College’s mission and vision by informing internal and external audiences about the positive accomplishments and activities in the College using all available resources and to provide information to stakeholders about the opportunities that exist to support the mission are accomplished.

Ensure messages communicated support the College and University priorities and align with key messages adopted by the University. ________________________________________ 5% Target Market Research and Analytics

Identify target markets based on market research data and historical trends to ascertain a strategic marketing approach.

Create surveys and analyze the results to test communication messages, evaluate brand recognition, and assure target markets are reached appropriately and effectively.

Utilize analytics to define, implement, and manage advertising, public relations and/or marketing campaigns. ________________________________________ 5% College Representative

Represent the College to the news media and other members of the public, and be a liaison with the central University communications and development units including the WSU Foundation, the WSU News Service, WSU Today, WSU Health Sciences campus communications office, the WSU Office of Marketing and Creative Services and University Publishing.

Identify the appropriate CPPS faculty, students and/or staff to serve as the CPPS spokesperson as needed. ________________________________________ 5% Supervision

Supervises subordinates, conducts training, assigns and prioritizes work, reviews and approves leave requests, conducts annual performance evaluations, and recommends corrective actions requiring general knowledge of human resource management practices.

Conducts formal annual performance evaluations with subordinates and continually mentors and encourages employee development.

Motivates employee(s) to achieve peak productivity and performance. ________________________________________ 5% Miscellaneous

Required Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing or other relevant field AND two (2) years of professional experience in print OR broadcast news media, public relations, marketing including the use of electronic media or two (2) years of other relevant professional experience.

Additional Requirements

Demonstrated experience with writing and editing.

Excellent command of the English language – its grammar and mechanics.

Demonstrated experience writing feature articles, brochures, annual reports and/or speeches.

Demonstrated experience executing strategic communication plans and complex communication projects.

Position requires a valid unrestricted driver`s license.

Position requires occasional travel (including overnights) to local, regional, and national college events.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in a related field.

Technical writing experience.

Demonstrated experience communicating research initiatives and educational programming to lay and scientific audiences.

Familiarity with WSU graphic identity program and branding elements.

Demonstrated knowledge of graphic/web design, development and implementation.
