The Houston Humane Society is seeking an experienced and highly driven Education and Community Outreach Coordinator to develop educational programs to encourage humane behavior and responsible pet care within the community. This position will work under the supervision of the Marketing Manager and will be expected to grow the education program by organizing presentations, classes, camps, tours, and events for adult and youth groups and individuals, partners, community organizations, and donors. The Education and Community Outreach Coordinator will also be responsible for representing the Houston Humane Society at community events, and within educational material that promotes humane education. He/She will work closely with the Marketing Manager to assess needs and target populations in order to take the most effective actions within the organizations scope, mission, and budget.
Requirements include high school diploma or equivalent with 2 years of college and teaching experience preferred, knowledge of and passion for animal welfare issues, and comfort with public speaking and broadcast opportunities. Strong interpersonal skills will be crucial for organizing and supervising a variety of volunteers and program attendees as well as maintaining professionalism in fast-paced, interview style, or difficult situations. Applicants should be willing and able to interact comfortably with animals both in and out of educational settings, and should have a demonstrated ability in handling multiple priorities, project management and meeting deadlines as well as strong planning and organizational skills.
