Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept

Portland State University (PSU), located on a 50-acre campus in downtown Portland, is a nationally acclaimed leader in sustainability and community-based learning. The University’s position in the heart of Oregon’s economic and cultural center enables PSU students and faculty to apply scholarly theory to the real-world problems of business and community organizations.

The Outreach Coordinator will oversee outreach activities, support faculty teaching and scholarship, and manage center finances and staff. Establish and maintain affiliations with outside cultural and academic organizations and individuals to solicit participation. Oversee and develop the center’s programming and other education and outreach programs including directing the planning and administration of events and activities. Assist the director with long-term program planning, academic program planning, research workshops, events and seminars. In collaboration with the MESC Director and PSU Foundation, support fundraising efforts, implement a strategic plan for the center’s Title VI application, and seek and apply for grants. Oversee the center’s programming including lectures, film series, art exhibitions, etc. Manage relationships with other organizations to foster partnerships on joint projects, faculty and student exchange, etc. Direct staff administrative operations including: developing and implementing policies and procedures, managing budgets, and supervising and managing staff.

Minimum Qualifications
  • BA/BS in Middle East Studies, International Studies, Education, or a related field with 3+ years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of the Middle East and international education.
  • Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize and process printed and numeric information.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and to demonstrate cultural sensitivity in a diverse work setting and community.
  • Ability to work independently and to implement programs with limited supervision.
  • Physical mobility and energy required for travel, transporting materials, and lengthy programs.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters in M.E. Studies, Int’l Studies, Education, or a related field with 1+ year of related experience.

Work Days/Hours Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement

The starting annual salary rate for this position will be $50,748 with an excellent benefits package including 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon University System schools.
