Design and support a broad range of QMI (on-line and at-line) GC systems associated with local pilot plants; Scout, screen develop and deploy new analytical technology as needed for R&D programs to meet Shell's measurement needs. Accountabilities:
  • Work with Shell process and catalyst development researchers to understand business needs for on-line GC hardware and applications.
  • Work with Shell and vendor staff to design, build, and install required hardware.
  • Develop and implement associated analytical methods required to meet project needs.
  • Manage projects to meet customer budgets and time constraints.
  • Provide timely and effective support to existing installed base on online, at-line and lab systems.
  • Identify, evaluate, develop and deploy new technologies based on customer needs.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Analytical or Physical Chemistry with 5+ years of hands-on experience in the design, method development and implementation of process analyzers. GC applications preferred. Exceptional experience in sensors and optical spectroscopy will also be considered.
  • MS Chemistry Degree holders with 10+ years of hands-on experience in the design, method development and implementation of process analyzers will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated expertise in chromatographic separation science, e.g. choice of columns, detectors, and other associated hardware, with the ability to design and validate the analytical measurements with the equipment.
  • Knowledge of multi-port valves and capillary flow technology for building specific customized multi-dimensional GC applications.
  • Strong interest and experience working with instrumentation that requires electrical, plumbing/piping and mechanical skills.
  • Familiarity with process sampling techniques, stream selectors, sample conditioning systems, compressed gas cylinders, piston cylinders.
  • Ability to specify the material, design, and conditions for safely handle and store process materials (gas or liquid) for accurate measurements.
  • Familiarity with the industrial manufacturing and pilot plant environment, with the ability to perform analyzer related tasks following safety requirements/regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and communication skills.
  • Expertise in computer-based chromatography data system (OpenLab, EZChrom, ChemStation), and ability to administrate and maintain such systems.
