POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Director of Engineering for Automation Solutions and Key OEM Development requires managing an engineering group focused on interfacing with the customers to better understand application challenges and process requirements. Lead New Product Development (NPD), Continuous Improvement Programs (CIP), and Design in Win (DIW) programs delivering products through Product Development & Introduction (PDI) process into a finished state, ready for internal and external customers. Conduct Technology Development and feasibility studies and document results with proposed solutions.

Along with executing on NPD and CIP programs, this position is the product design authority and takes a leadership role in working with other functions to ensure Brooks’ product performance and quality exceeds customers’ expectations. He/she will establish best practices for developing and implementing engineering standard work to improve team’s capabilities and efficiency. An emphasis is also required on developing and sustaining application knowledge in our markets that enable Brooks Automation to be on the forefront of the industry.

The required skills are persistence in meeting goals coupled with flexibility to find a path around obstacles and the ability to keep the team focused on meeting the customer’s expectations. The individual needs to be a process champion to ensure programs are not only completed but also that the resulting products are robust by ensuring completion of necessary documentation.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Director of Engineering will be responsible for:

  • Interact with the customers to better understand their needs and industry road maps,
  • Technology and Product Development leadership,
  • New Product, Customized Products and Value Engineering projects,
  • Implementing world-class capabilities, processes, and design practices.
  • Will take leading role in Automation technology development:

  • Determining next generation technical capabilities to meet Customers’ new needs
  • Develop Technology Roadmaps that guide Engineering R&D and Product planning
  • Establish Process knowledge experts for key growth markets
  • Will be a key member of Engineering organization that focuses on:

  • Product Quality
  • Customer satisfaction
  • Engineering efficiency and effectiveness
  • Continuous process and capability improvement
  • Of particular importance is the ability to communicate and work cross-functionally on new product development projects with accelerated schedules. The Director will work together with the Product Team to align priorities establish Product Roadmaps and meet Business goals.

    This role requires the ability to balance urgency in achieving short-term goals with longer term strategies. As a member of the Engineering leadership team, he/she will participate with other managers in establishing the organization’s strategic plans and objectives while ensuring that structures, processes, and systems align to support those objectives.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    The ideal candidate will possess:

  • MS or PhD degree in relevant engineering or scientific discipline.
  • Strong leadership skills with a minimum of 5 years experience in the industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams to accomplish aggressive goals. Including working across multiple, global sites.
  • History of developing new products from concept through production using a stage gate process. Six sigma and DFSS experienced a plus.
  • Experience in selecting and working with outsource partners.
  • Must be able to establish working relationship with cross-functional colleagues.
