Job Description :

My client is looking for a Medical Secretary to provide secretarial support to the Medical Director, GPs andother members of the Primary Healthcare Team. The post holder will provide a high standard ofcommunication in daily contact with patients, allied healthcare professionals and all members ofthe Primary Healthcare Team.

Specific and general duties/tasks are described overleaf. This list is not exhaustive but intended asa guide to the work expected of the post holder. 

In addition, the post holder may be required to attend internal training and quality improvementsessions and other specified events as part of their personal development.

All working conditions are supplied in the Practice Induction Package. The post holder will beexpected to adhere to the Health and Safety regulations of the Practice.The post holder must be aware of the Practice requirement for confidentiality at all times.The Practice operates a yearly appraisal system to review staff training and development needs.The Practice will provide training to enable the post-holder to carry out their duties.• To provide an efficient audio, copy typing and word processing service for GPs and HealthProfessionals as required. This includes the typing of letters, reports, patient referrals,minutes, memorandums etc in an accurate and quality manner.• To assist in referral of patients to one or more hospital(s) of their choice which includessending out relevant documentation to the patient.• To assist the Practice Manager with clerical and administrative duties.• To make appointments, bookings and admissions as required.• To liaise and arrange meetings as required and to attend meetings and take minutes.• To establish and maintain filing and administrative systems so that written or computerinformation is easily accessible and secure.• To retrieve medical records and assist in the completion of medical/insurance records.• File patient records and correspondence in electronic patient medical records.• To receive incoming and initiate outgoing telephone calls in order to deal with appropriatequeries.• To assist with the gathering of statistics and information when required.• To provide cover for members of the secretarial and administrative team during periods ofsickness and annual leave.
